Sound Acts started in 2015 as a showcase for the label Fytini, which is an athens-based queer music label, focusing on performative music and sound projects. The first festival included mostly local queer acts, alongside some international allies of ours. It was organised in a DIY-fashion and put together with the help of volunteers and crowdfunding. It took place in the theatre and arts space KET, in the area of Kypseli in Athens.

After completing our first event and posting photos and videos online, there was significant interest from people abroad and so for the second instalment the year after, we decided to put out an open call for participations. The response was overwhelming, with over 100 applications from around the world. Due to the unforeseen number of applications, our second event lasted four days, though still organised through volunteering and crowdfunding. The size of the event grew a little too big for its funding boots and the space in which it took place. |
Our final event was put together in the context of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival with the production help of Mountain View arts. Having a larger stage and with the extra funding of the parent festival, we had the opportunity to invite somewhat bigger projects and acts whose expenses we could not cover before, so we were able to create a more varied, intersectional programme. Some people found our last event the least intimate of all - oh well, win some, lose some.
