Andriana Minou presents 'Epicycle'
|
Andriana Minou is a musician and writer, born in Greece and living in London since 2004. She works mainly as a pianist and is the founder of the Vladimir & Estragon Piano Duo and the Oiseaux Bizarres Ensemble. In 2013, she organised the biggest Jani Christou conference to date, with performances, papers and screenings on the work of the composer. In Sound Acts, she presented 'Epicycle', a realisation of Jani Christou's seminal score. The performance was devised in collaboration with members of the Oiseaux Bizarres Ensemble and Fytini / Sound Acts.
Jani Christou was a Greek avant-garde composer, considered one of the most controversial of his generation. He studied formal logic and philosophy in London and attended seminars by Carl Jung, which deeply influenced his approach to composition. In his work, the boundaries between music, theatre and everyday 'life', merge. His pieces are still rarely performed to this day. 'Epicycle' is one of his most open-formed and enigmatic works and for some a culmination of his oeuvre. |
