The Death of Queer
|
The Death of Queer was a performance that was conceptualised during the production of the last Sound Acts event in 2017 and arose out of frustrations in the relationship between Sound Acts and its 2017 host/parent, Athens & Epidaurus Festival, the instrumentalisation of queer politics at the documenta art fair that was talking place concurrently in Athens, as well as the increasingly separatist tendencies of the greek queer world. The two members of FYTA, alongside performers Mariza Tsari, Matt Cornell, Johnny Pavlatos, Elena Poughia, Nightmare Fuel, Antigoni Tsagkaropoulou, Pedra Costa and Plasticaux Gigi created a eulogy and funeral for the once hopeful, now despairing queer scene. The audience gathered round to light a candle and mourn the body of the recently deceased movement. Costumes and props by Antigoni Tsagkaropoulou and Lydia Miligkou.
