Magda Lampropoulou
|
Magda Lampropoulou lives and works in Athens. Her work functions as a channel to communicate life experiences which are hard to confess and are methodically revealed in a manner escalating from the works’ structure; what starts out as a therapeutic confession that brings relief on a personal level is subsequently transformed into a social issue. "Hearing Instrument", her project for Sound Acts, was based on her recent research on disability and the derision and pity towards people who wear hearing aids. The performance derived from her personal experience relating to the stigmatised body which is slowly driven to isolation: the body as abject. The sounds that came from Magda's live performance, e.g. the sound of birds, were sounds that a person who is hard-of hearing would not be able to hear.
